Psalm 145 in Hebrew and English, and the words as they are sung.

A praise psalm by David.

1

I will exalt you, my God, the King. I will praise your name forever and ever.

תְּהִלָּ֗ה לְדָ֫וִ֥ד אֲרוֹמִמְךָ֣ אֱלוֹהַ֣י הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַאֲבָרֲכָ֥ה שִׁ֝מְךָ֗ לְעוֹלָ֥ם וָעֶֽד׃

2

Every day I will praise you. I will extol your name forever and ever.

בְּכָל־י֥וֹם אֲבָרֲכֶ֑ךָּ וַאֲהַלְלָ֥ה שִׁ֝מְךָ֗ לְעוֹלָ֥ם וָעֶֽד׃

3

Great is Yahweh, and greatly to be praised! His greatness is unsearchable.

גָּ֘ד֤וֹל יְהוָ֣ה וּמְהֻלָּ֣ל מְאֹ֑ד וְ֝לִגְדֻלָּת֗וֹ אֵ֣ין חֵֽקֶר׃

4

One generation will commend your works to another, and will declare your mighty acts.

דּ֣וֹר לְ֭דוֹר יְשַׁבַּ֣ח מַעֲשֶׂ֑יךָ וּגְב֖וּרֹתֶ֣יךָ יַגִּֽידוּ׃

5

I will meditate on the glorious majesty of your honor, on your wondrous works.

הֲ֭דַר כְּב֣וֹד הוֹדֶ֑ךָ וְדִבְרֵ֖י נִפְלְאוֹתֶ֣יךָ אָשִֽׂיחָה׃

6

Men will speak of the might of your awesome acts. I will declare your greatness.

וֶעֱז֣וּז נוֹרְאֹתֶ֣יךָ יֹאמֵ֑רוּ וגדולתיך אֲסַפְּרֶֽנָּה׃

7

They will utter the memory of your great goodness, and will sing of your righteousness.

זֵ֣כֶר רַב־טוּבְךָ֣ יַבִּ֑יעוּ וְצִדְקָתְךָ֥ יְרַנֵּֽנוּ׃

8

Yahweh is gracious, merciful, slow to anger, and of great loving kindness.

חַנּ֣וּן וְרַח֣וּם יְהוָ֑ה אֶ֥רֶךְ אַ֝פַּ֗יִם וּגְדָל־חָֽסֶד׃

9

Yahweh is good to all. His tender mercies are over all his works.

טוֹב־יְהוָ֥ה לַכֹּ֑ל וְ֝רַחֲמָ֗יו עַל־כָּל־מַעֲשָֽׂיו׃

10

All your works will give thanks to you, Yahweh. Your saints will extol you.

יוֹד֣וּךָ יְ֭הוָה כָּל־מַעֲשֶׂ֑יךָ וַ֝חֲסִידֶ֗יךָ יְבָרֲכֽוּכָה׃

11

They will speak of the glory of your kingdom, and talk about your power,

כְּב֣וֹד מַלְכוּתְךָ֣ יֹאמֵ֑רוּ וּגְבוּרָתְךָ֥ יְדַבֵּֽרוּ׃

12

to make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, the glory of the majesty of his kingdom.

לְהוֹדִ֤יעַ ׀ לִבְנֵ֣י הָ֭אָדָם גְּבוּרֹתָ֑יו וּ֝כְב֗וֹד הֲדַ֣ר מַלְכוּתֽוֹ׃

13

Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. Your dominion endures throughout all generations. Yahweh is faithful in all his words, and loving in all his deeds.

מַֽלְכוּתְךָ֗ מַלְכ֥וּת כָּל־עֹֽלָמִ֑ים וּ֝מֶֽמְשֶׁלְתְּךָ֗ בְּכָל־דּ֥וֹר וָדֽוֹר׃

14

Yahweh upholds all who fall, and raises up all those who are bowed down.

סוֹמֵ֣ךְ יְ֭הוָה לְכָל־הַנֹּפְלִ֑ים וְ֝זוֹקֵ֗ף לְכָל־הַכְּפוּפִֽים׃

15

The eyes of all wait for you. You give them their food in due season.

עֵֽינֵי־כֹ֭ל אֵלֶ֣יךָ יְשַׂבֵּ֑רוּ וְאַתָּ֤ה נֽוֹתֵן־לָהֶ֖ם אֶת־אָכְלָ֣ם בְּעִתּֽוֹ׃

16

You open your hand, and satisfy the desire of every living thing.

פּוֹתֵ֥חַ אֶת־יָדֶ֑ךָ וּמַשְׂבִּ֖יעַ לְכָל־חַ֣י רָצֽוֹן׃

17

Yahweh is righteous in all his ways, and gracious in all his works.

צַדִּ֣יק יְ֭הוָה בְּכָל־דְּרָכָ֑יו וְ֝חָסִ֗יד בְּכָל־מַעֲשָֽׂיו׃

18

Yahweh is near to all those who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.

קָר֣וֹב יְ֭הוָה לְכָל־קֹרְאָ֑יו לְכֹ֤ל אֲשֶׁ֖ר יִקְרָאֻ֣הוּ בֶאֱמֶֽת׃

19

He will fulfill the desire of those who fear him. He also will hear their cry, and will save them.

רְצוֹן־יְרֵאָ֥יו יַעֲשֶׂ֑ה וְֽאֶת־שַׁוְעָתָ֥ם יִ֝שְׁמַ֗ע וְיוֹשִׁיעֵֽם׃

20

Yahweh preserves all those who love him, but he will destroy all the wicked.

שׁוֹמֵ֣ר יְ֭הוָה אֶת־כָּל־אֹהֲבָ֑יו וְאֵ֖ת כָּל־הָרְשָׁעִ֣ים יַשְׁמִֽיד׃

21

My mouth will speak the praise of Yahweh. Let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.

תְּהִלַּ֥ת יְהוָ֗ה יְֽדַבֶּ֫ר־פִּ֥י וִיבָרֵ֣ךְ כָּל־בָּ֭שָׂר שֵׁ֥ם קָדְשׁ֗וֹ לְעוֹלָ֥ם וָעֶֽד׃

all my life.

All my life I'll lift you high.

My God, my King, I'll bless your name forever and ever.

Bless you, I will, every day that dawns I'll praise your name forever and ever

Heart full of mercy, kind as the Lord, slow to boil, overflowing with love

And everything the Lord is good to all, His tenderness

Covers all he made

Covers all he made

All my life I lift you high

My God, my King, I'll bless your name

Forever and ever

Plenty I will

Every day that dawns

I'll praise your name

Forever and ever

Crown the Lord as great

Praise Him to the sky

No one can measure

How big, big He is

He's down all the years

Each, each generation

A generation tells the next

What you've done

Distress strength

The hell of your all

The stress strengthens of your own

Every glory, glory of your splendor

Or I'll think it through

All the wonders you have worked

And I will

Fear some things you've done

They'll talk about death

And I will tell

Never letting go

The Lord, Lord holds up a wall

On on you, you

Every, every eye is high, is way

And you give them their food

Right on time

All wide open

You've been, you, you

Filled every living thing

Heart full of mercy

Kind is the Lord

Slow to boil, overflowing with love

In everything the Lord is good

To all his tenderness

Court covers all evening

Quiet and steady

The Lord is riding all his ways

Right beside all

Who, who called to him?

Oh, call on him for real

He does what those, those who fear him

Him long for

He hears their cry and saves them

The Lord keeps watch, watch

Who are all loving him?

Heart full of mercy, kindness, the Lord's son of oil

Overflowing with love

In everything the Lord is good to all

His tenderness, cold colors, all we need

Cocoa Black King, your kingdom lasts through every age.

Everything you made will thank you.

Let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.

All my life I'll lift you high

My God, I got my King

I'll praise your name forever and ever

Bless you, I will

Every day that that dawns

In a heart full of mercy, kindness, the Lord

So the water will overflow with love

In everything, the Lord is good to all

His tenderness who covers all you need

These covers are in me

For all my life I've lived you high

About these songs. They are a summary and a commentary on the Psalms, not a word-for-word translation. Read what these songs are →

What These Songs Are, and What They Are Not

These songs are not a word-for-word translation of the Psalms. They were never meant to be. Nor do they try to capture every idea in every psalm. In a song, that would be impossible.

What we have done is capture the essence of each psalm: what matters most in it. Think of each song as a summary. Think of it as a cheat sheet. The purpose of the psalm is still being met. God's word to mankind is still being heard.

Behind many of these lines is word research: deep study of the meaning of the Hebrew. So where a line sounds different from your translation, and you think it is wrong, study it. We believe you will find that the essence of what we sing is true.

The truth is that no one can set the Psalms to music without also becoming a commentator. That is what this is. It is a modern commentary on the Psalms: not only the Psalms themselves, and not only the Psalms being sung. So do not think that every word of the psalm is here. It is not. Read the psalm itself, in full.

Why do this at all? Because we believe God intended humanity to be surrounded by His word. This was always the entertainment He wanted us to have: not hours of television, not a day lost in a phone looking at nonsense. The blessed man of Psalm 1 meditates on God's word day and night. How can we meditate on His word if we do not surround ourselves with it?

As ministers, our first responsibility is to share God's word with people. That is what these songs are for.
